Why you Shouldn’t be Afraid to go to Treatment: Friendships in Treatment

Tuesday, January 16, 2018 | By Bowling Green

The idea of treatment can be frightening. Some people experience significant anxiety even at the mention of rehab. But it doesn’t have to feel this way. The vast majority of people who make the leap of faith and check themselves in find that their peers share a number of similarities with them.

Lifelong Friends in Recovery

Clients find a refreshing comradery when they join a group of like-minded people that support each other in their search for a better life. The changes that clients undergo together as they progress in their treatment create life long, lasting relationships.

Some of the closest friends, the most intimate partnerships are developed as clients work together to save each other’s lives. This is due to the healing nature of working together to progress in one’s recovery. Functioning as a group, in therapy and casually, is invaluable to healing from addiction.

Similarity of Stories

More often than not, clients will say they entered treatment assuming that they would relate to no one. But upon further investigation, they find that although the details and circumstances may vary from person to person, the underlying feelings and sentiments are the same.

Group Therapy and Experiential Treatment

JourneyPure Bowling Green offers several different types of experiential group therapy. Experiential here having an emphasis on an activity that will require the client to step slightly outside of their comfort zone and participate in an activity they may not have experienced before.

We use Equine therapy, Songwriting therapy, Art therapy, and Adventure therapy. Click here for specifics on each of these treatments.

The main function of these different forms of experiential therapy is to encourage the client to have fun in a sober setting. So often, the first thing to be taken by addiction is the ability to have fun and experience life without taking a drink or a drug. This is the highlight of many clients’ stay at JourneyPure Bowling Green. And they grow together as a team.
